OH MY SON

OPERATIC TABLEAUX

By Marcos Galvany

Symphony Irvine joins La Sierra University in a performance of Oh My Son, a set of operatic tableaux by Spanish composer Marcos Galvany. This work comprises a series of short operatic scenes that tell the story of Jesus Christ in the days leading up to the Crucifixion and emphasizes the human elements of the individuals involved: Jesus, Mary, Mary Magdalene, and Pilate.

Galvany's music is contemporary but very accessible, striking a balance between the pathos of traditional European opera and the drama of today's best cinematographic writing.
